In this year of opportunity, we must get in position to receive the blessings that God has In store for us.
1.) Realize your weaknesses (Luke 19:3) “ He tried to get a look at Jesus but he couldn’t see over the crowd.” Physically Zacchaeus was too short, (realized his weakness) as so are some of us spiritually.
Romans 12:3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give a good of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. (We have to accept we have room for improvement. Be as conscious of your weaknesses as you are if your strengths.)
2.) Respond urgently (Luke 19:4) So he ran ahead to climb the sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. (When he noticed his weakness and heard what Direction Jesus was going, immediately He moved to get in position).
3.) Requires Effort ( Luke 19:4) he ran ahead to climb the sycamore-fig tree beside the road. Sometimes the climb is ordained by God. It takes 20-50 years for a sycamore tree to mature. Long before this opportunity came about to Zacchaeus to see Jesus the tools necessary were already in place. If he wasn’t conscious of his weaknesses, willing to put in the effort or didn’t feel the need to move urgently, he could’ve missed a opportunity meant for him.( Luke 19:5) when Jesus came by, He looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” He said, “Come down, I must be a guest in your home today.”
Isaiah 40:27-31 O Jacob, how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high in wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
4.) Relinquish people-pleasing (Luke 19 6-7) Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the people were displeased. “ He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector as stated in Luke 19:1-2. Brave enough to go in a crowd full of people where he was hated to see Jesus.
Jesus weren’t worried about the people because he had a assignment to carry out, as did Zacchaeus. When we have an assignment, we must be able to be aware of our surroundings and still focus on the assignment. Note that Zacchaeus did not announce who he was to Jesus, Jesus knew his name. THIS opportunity had his name on it.
Meanwhile(dismissing the people and they’re hatred/opinions) (Luke 19:8) Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”
5.) Get in position & God will Reveal His Glory (Luke 19:9) Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham.
Because Zacchaeus did what He was supposed to do, his assignment allows everyone connected to him to be blessed.
When you GET IN POSITION God’s glory can be revealed not only in your life but in everyone connected to you.
